Youth Tellers at Texas Storytelling Festival
March 26-29, 2009
The Tejas Storytelling Association is planning their annual festival in Denton. The date is set for March 26-March 29 at the TWU campus in Denton. One of the goals of TSA is to nurture budding storytellers. Currently we are looking for those young tellers mainly between the ages of 6-16 years old. They will be invited to tell stories along with our professional storytellers on either Friday (3/27) or Saturday (3/28)!
Right now is the time to begin selecting and working on a story with your “mentees” to try out for one of the coveted positions beside our professionals. A VHS videotape or DVD must be postmarked on or before January 18 in order for selections and arrangements to be made in time. DO NOT SEND VHS-C, MiniDV, Hi8 or 8mm. We can not view these, and they will automatically be disqualified.

Opportunities for student storytellers are available year round! Shelby has a network of librarians, teachers, storytellers, and anyone interested in what opportunities are offered for kids in Texas. Email Shelby and let her add you to her Texas youth storytelling network. This list of addresses is used soley to keep you informed of opportunities and upcoming deadlines for young storytellers.

Shelby has developed a set of writing tips that she will be sending out one tip per month. It is not her intent to bog your mailbox down with lots of junk, nor are these tips going to be so long that it takes much time to read them. Most of them will be quick ideas that you can use immediately. If you find them helpful, spread the word. Email Shelby for more information!
