Poems written by Shelby's past students.
Mrs. Smith
Mrs. Smith is creative as can be.
She makes learning really easy.
She teaches us facts that are really cool.
So that we can use them at every school.
Mrs. Smith is creative as can be.
She makes reading really easy.
When she reads to us everyday,
I feel the character in everyway.
Mrs. Smith is creative as can be.
She makes writing really easy.
We can write tales anyway we want,
And sometimes in any form or font.
Mrs. Smith is creative as can be.
She makes math really easy.
She puts on a tape and we learn them fast,
And then we think that math’s a blast.
Mrs. Smith is creative as can be.
Storytelling has made her flee.
If you see a crowd you’ll know she’s there
Telling stories everywhere.

Marty arrived a mess, and Mom will agree. He just couldn’t get a pen to paper or know what to say if he did. This poem is one he brought to me the year after he left my classes, Marty’s book report poem...
Out of Nowhere
Harley Nunn is his name
Bruised, confused and used
May woods took him in
He likes having a good home
He wants a good place to stay
And really needs friends
Resident of nowhere
The lonely teenager

"My students progressed in their writing and thinking of the different steps of story writing. We used all of Shelby's ideas in our stories and even in science reading! It helped my students with their ESL. They have really improved their writing, speaking and adding ideas in their stories. They have used Shelby's words and vocabulary in their daily language. I think storytelling is a must with the bilingual students."
